About the Zaniel Havelock series

Zaniel Havelock is Laurell K. Hamilton's newest series, following its title character, a psychic and metaphysical detective marked by an angel encounter that reshaped his abilities and his life. A Terrible Fall of Angels opens the series with Havelock investigating a violent crime scene that reveals a dark, largely unknown supernatural threat -- angels who are anything but benevolent -- forcing him to confront both an active danger and the trauma of his own past brush with the divine.

Hamilton brings her established strengths -- morally complicated supernatural power, protagonists navigating trauma and unconventional relationships, and detailed metaphysical world-building -- into an angel-focused mythology distinct from both Anita Blake's vampires and weres and Merry Gentry's fae courts. No Game for Knights continues the series, deepening Havelock's world and the threats within it.

With two books published so far, Zaniel Havelock is Hamilton's most recent ongoing series.

How to read this series

Read in publication order: A Terrible Fall of Angels, then No Game for Knights. It's a continuing story -- Havelock's investigation and his own history with angels build across both books, so read them in sequence. This is a separate mythology from Hamilton's other series (Anita Blake, Merry Gentry), with no shared characters or setting to track.
