Brooklyn Hockey picks up where Sarina Bowen's original Brooklyn Bruisers trilogy left off, staying with the same fictional NHL expansion team as its roster, front office, and extended circle keep growing. Brooklynaire opens the run with a slow-burn office romance between the team's reclusive new part-owner and his very off-limits assistant; later books widen the lens to teammates, a rival pop star, a superfan-turned-love-interest, and eventually the launch of the Bruisers' companion women's team, the Bombshells, whose own players get books of their own starting with Bombshells itself. Two free prequel novellas, Lucky Shot and Must Love Hockey, slot in ahead of the books they set up.

As with the earlier trilogy, Bowen keeps her insider hockey detail and workplace-adjacent tension front and center, but the emotional register widens here: Shenanigans plays a Vegas-wedding premise for comedy, while Bombshells and its Bombshells-team follow-ups fold in the more serious territory of building a professional women's league from nothing. Characters and plotlines recur across books -- front-office politics, team culture, and a few running jokes carry over from one couple's story to the next -- so while every book has its own self-contained central romance, longtime Brooklyn Bruisers readers get the most out of continuing in order. New readers can still start here without having read the original trilogy, though Rookie Move, Hard Hitter, and Pipe Dreams establish the team and are worth reading first if available.
