About the Elements of Cadence series
On the island of Cadence, the elemental spirits of earth, water, fire and wind are as real and as temperamental as the clans who share the land with them, and when a girl vanishes from her croft, bard-turned-spy Jack Tamerlaine is sent home to investigate under the cover of chasing his own music career. Working with Adaira, the heir he was fostered alongside as a child and has been at odds with ever since, Jack has to win the trust of Cadence's fickle spirits while untangling a string of disappearances that may be tied to an old, buried wrong between the island's two rival clans.
Rebecca Ross builds Elements of Cadence around folk-horror atmosphere and a slow-burn, letters-adjacent romance between Jack and Adaira, closer in tone to Scottish balladry and fae-bargain folklore than the fairy-tale mashups of her later Letters of Enchantment books.
