About the Firemane Saga series

Set in a brand-new world entirely separate from Midkemia, the Firemane Saga follows Hatushaly, last surviving heir of the Firemane dynasty, hidden away since his kingdom was destroyed by a coalition of rival powers years before the story begins. As Hatushaly grows into a young man capable of reclaiming his birthright, he's joined by his closest friends -- fellow orphan and eventual love interest Hava, and swordsman Donte -- in a political fantasy of assassins, rival kingdoms, and buried magic on the world of Garn: a clean break from the Riftwar Cycle's decades of accumulated continuity, aimed at readers who want Feist's storytelling without needing to have read anything that came before.

Published between 2018 and 2022, King of Ashes, Queen of Storms, and Master of Furies form a complete, self-contained trilogy that was explicitly designed as a fresh starting point in Feist's career -- his first entirely new fantasy world since launching the Riftwar Cycle in 1982. It later turned out not to be fully separate after all: the Dragonwar Saga, begun with A Darkness Returns (2024), deliberately merges the Firemane world with Midkemia and the Riftwar Cycle, which makes reading Firemane first worthwhile for anyone planning to continue into Dragonwar.

How to read this series

Read in publication order: King of Ashes, Queen of Storms, Master of Furies. No prior Feist reading is required -- this trilogy was designed as a standalone entry point in a brand-new world, unconnected to the Riftwar Cycle at the time it was published. If you plan to continue into the newer Dragonwar Saga, which merges this world with Midkemia, read Firemane first: A Darkness Returns assumes you already know Hatushaly, Hava, and the world of Garn established across these three books.
