About The Peri Reed Chronicles

Peri Reed is a Drafter -- a covert operative for a shadowy government-adjacent agency called Opti, engineered with the ability to jump back roughly forty seconds in time whenever a mission goes wrong and "draft" a cleaner outcome. The catch is memory: every draft has to be stabilized by a partner who reshapes what Peri remembers actually happened, which makes her the perfect deniable asset and the perfect person to manipulate. When Peri discovers her own memories have been rewritten to hide that she killed the partner she loved, and that her name has been added to a list of corrupted operatives to be quietly eliminated, she goes on the run in a near-future Detroit, forced to work with Silas, a psychologist trying to expose Opti's corruption from outside, to reconstruct what actually happened to her -- and to herself.

Harrison swaps The Hollows' supernatural Cincinnati for a grounded, near-future spy thriller pitched as Bourne Identity by way of Minority Report: no magic, just an engineered ability to rewrite the last forty seconds of reality, and the far darker question of how much of your own memory you can trust when the people who trained you control what you remember. It's leaner and more paranoid than her urban fantasy work, built around Peri's fight to reclaim a self that keeps getting edited out from under her.

Frequently asked questions

How many books are in the Peri Reed Chronicles?

Two novels -- The Drafter (2015) and The Operator (2016) -- plus a short prequel novella, Sideswiped (2015).

What order should I read the Peri Reed Chronicles in?

The Drafter, then The Operator. Sideswiped is a prequel best read after the two novels, once you already know Peri and Opti.

Is the Peri Reed Chronicles connected to The Hollows?

No. It's a standalone science fiction thriller series with no magic or supernatural creatures, set in a near-future Detroit rather than Harrison's Hollows universe.

Is the series finished?

It reads as complete at two novels plus the prequel novella; no further Peri Reed books have been announced since The Operator in 2016.

What is Peri Reed's power?

She's a Drafter: she can jump back about forty seconds in time to redo a mission that's gone wrong, but the memory of what really happened has to be stabilized -- and can be manipulated -- by a partner, which is the series' central danger.
