Gabriela Rose is a globe-trotting recovery agent -- part treasure hunter, part fixer -- hired by wealthy clients, insurance companies, and governments to track down stolen art, lost fortunes, and other valuables too sensitive or too illegal for the usual channels to touch. The Recovery Agent launches Evanovich's newest series with Gabriela chasing a Mayan treasure while trying to keep her ex-husband, con-man Rafer, from wrecking the job, and her ne'er-do-well brother out of prison; The King's Ransom sends her after a set of missing royal jewels with the same Rafer complication along for the ride. It's Evanovich's most straightforwardly adventure-thriller series to date -- globe-hopping and heist mechanics layered under her usual wisecracking dialogue and will-they-won't-they romantic entanglement, this time between two people who are already exes rather than will-be lovers.

Launched in 2022 with a second entry in late 2025, the series reunites Evanovich with the same fast-paced, banter-heavy voice that defines Plum and Fox and O'Hare, applied to a globe-trotting treasure-hunt frame rather than bail bonds or espionage. With only two books so far and clear momentum from recent sales, more entries are plausible, though nothing beyond The King's Ransom has been officially announced.

How to read this series

Read in publication order: The Recovery Agent (2022), then The King's Ransom (2025). Each book is a self-contained treasure hunt with its own target and villain, but Gabriela's complicated history with ex-husband Rafer and her family entanglements carry over from the first book into the second, so starting with The Recovery Agent gives the relationships their proper setup. As a newer, still-growing series, this is an easy entry point for readers who want Evanovich's voice without thirty-plus books of backlog to catch up on.
