A decade after superpowered Renegades defeated the tyrannical Anarchists and became the world's ruling authority, Nova Artino is an Anarchist herself -- and a young woman with a grudge, since a Renegade failed to save her family when she was a child. Posing as a new recruit under the alias Insomnia, Nova infiltrates Renegade headquarters to destroy the heroes from within, only to find herself falling for Adrian Everhart, the golden-boy son of the Renegades' most famous leaders, who is secretly investigating a vigilante he doesn't realize is Nova herself.

Marissa Meyer builds Renegades as a full superhero-genre trilogy rather than a fairy-tale retelling like her earlier work, complete with an original power system, a slow-burn hero/villain romance, and a central question about whether the Renegades' rigid idea of justice is actually just. The trilogy escalates from Nova's infiltration plot into a citywide reckoning over who gets to define good and evil when both sides have equally personal reasons for the fight.

How to read this series

Read in publication order: Renegades, Archenemies, Supernova. It's one continuous story following Nova and Adrian across all three books, with each installment picking up shortly after the last.
