About the Shattered Sea series
Yarvi was born with a withered hand in a culture that worships strength above all else, so his path was set for the ministry — until his father and brother are murdered and the crown he never wanted lands on his head anyway. Betrayed, enslaved and sold as an oarsman on a trading ship, Yarvi has to survive on wits alone in a world of cold seas, blood feuds and half-drowned gods, and the vengeance he eventually claws his way toward costs him and everyone around him more than he expected. Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy takes the moral bluntness and unglamorous violence of his adult First Law books and filters it through younger protagonists and a slightly faster, leaner pace, without softening much of the edge that made his reputation.
