On the African savannah, all creatures live by a sacred pact: the Code, which governs when predators may kill and ensures every animal's death eventually feeds the circle of life. When the elephant matriarch who has kept the peace for a generation dies, the balance of power across the Bravelands begins to collapse -- and three young animals of different species, a lion cub named Fearless, a baboon named Thorn, and an elephant calf named Sky, are drawn together as the old order gives way to something more dangerous.

Erin Hunter widens the animal-fantasy formula that built Warriors, Seekers and Survivors to the scale of an entire ecosystem: rather than one species' society, Bravelands tracks lions, baboons, elephants, hyenas, cheetahs and more, each with their own culture, politics and moral code, all bound together by the shared law of the Code and the mythology of Great Spirit and Skytongue. Across three connected arcs the series follows successive generations as new threats -- plague, tyranny, and a fracturing social order -- test whether the Code can survive.

It's a good fit for Warriors readers who want the same multi-species, generation-spanning animal epic scaled up to real African wildlife and a genuinely ecosystem-wide sense of stakes.

How to read this series

Read the three arcs in publication order. Start with the original arc, Broken Pride through Oathkeeper (six books), which tells one complete story about Fearless, Thorn and Sky navigating the Bravelands' collapsing order. The second arc, Curse of the Sandtongue (three books, starting with Shadows on the Mountain), and the third, Thunder on the Plains (three books, starting with The Shattered Horn), each follow new central characters in later generations and should be read in sequence after the arc before them.

No prior Erin Hunter reading is required -- Bravelands is a separate world and cast from Warriors, Seekers and Survivors, sharing only the publisher pseudonym and the general animal-fantasy format.
