About the Fargo Adventures series

Sam and Remi Fargo are self-made multimillionaires — he a former DARPA engineer, she a historian and linguist — who spend their fortune bankrolling their own globe-trotting expeditions instead of relaxing into retirement. Each novel sends them chasing a real or plausible piece of lost history — a Spartan treasure, a Mayan codex, a Romanov fortune, a Viking relic — against rival treasure hunters, mercenaries and governments who want the same prize for far less noble reasons. Clive Cussler launched the series in 2009 as his lightest, most purely fun adventure line: lower body-count and higher banter than Dirk Pitt or the Oregon Files, built around a genuinely happy, bickering-but-devoted marriage rather than a lone-wolf hero.

The series has passed through several co-writers — Grant Blackwood, Thomas Perry and Russell Blake each wrote a few installments before Robin Burcell took over from Pirate (2016) onward and has written every book since, continuing solo after Cussler's 2020 death. Readers who want Indiana-Jones-style treasure-hunting with a married couple's chemistry at the center, and a gentler tone than the rest of the Cussler-verse, are the natural audience.

How to read this series

Publication order, starting with Spartan Gold (2009). Every book is a self-contained treasure hunt, so the series is entirely friendly to starting anywhere, though Sam and Remi's relationship and supporting cast develop gradually across the books.

Grant Blackwood wrote the first three (2009-2011), Thomas Perry the next two, Russell Blake two more, and Robin Burcell has written every book since Pirate (2016), including all entries published after Cussler's 2020 death. As with the other Cussler series, the handoffs are seamless enough that a new reader won't notice a hard break in tone.
