The Cash & Colcord series by Douglas Preston has 2 books and is best read in publication order, starting with Extinction (2024).
Start here: Extinction (2024) — then read straight through in publication order.

The order the books were released — the default way to read the series.
CBI Agent Frankie Cash and Eagle County Sheriff Jim Colcord investigate crimes in a near-future Colorado where de-extinction science has gone mainstream -- starting with a murder at a luxury safari resort stocked with genetically resurrected woolly mammoths and Ice Age megafauna. Douglas Preston, writing in the scientific-speculation mode he also used for the Wyman Ford series, launched the series solo with Extinction (2024), his first solo novel in a decade, before co-writing the sequel Paradox with his daughter Aletheia Preston.
Paradox (2026) follows Cash and Colcord into the Colorado wilderness again, with the resort's resurrected Neanderthals now loose in the mountains and a fresh trail of bizarre killings tied to a secret society.
Read Extinction (2024) first -- it introduces Agent Frankie Cash, Sheriff Jim Colcord and the de-extinction resort premise that Paradox (2026) directly continues.
Two: Extinction (2024) and Paradox (2026).
Extinction first, then Paradox, which continues the story directly.
Douglas Preston wrote Extinction solo; Paradox is co-written with his daughter, Aletheia Preston.
No direct crossover -- it's a separate near-future series distinct from Pendergast, Gideon Crew, Nora Kelly and Wyman Ford.
No further title had been announced beyond Paradox (2026) as of this writing.
